Joan Lynn Charlotte (Nelson) Blackburn, 78, of Woodbury, MN, passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Joan was born November 2, 1945, to Mauritz and Freida Nelson in Plum City, WI. She was the youngest of eight children, graduated from St. Louis Park High School, attended the University of MN, was married, and raised two children. Later, she bravely began life as a single woman and took on new roles as a grandmother and para-educator at Carver Elementary.

She loved and prayed for her family – pictures of them graced the walls of her home and the refrigerator. She loved her church of 53 years, her friends, the children she cared for, and all dogs. Most of all she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her favorite picture was one of Jesus knocking on a door, a reference to Revelation 3:20, “Here I Am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” Joan shared Jesus with anyone and everyone. She prayed for, listened to, and cared for those around her. Joan’s faith, joy, and perseverance were evidenced to all.

Joan is survived by her children Kathy and Larry and their families.

A memorial service for Joan will be held at Heartwood Church at 2pm on May 18th (6477 10th St. N., Oakdale, MN 55128). Guests are invited to wear something red, Joan’s favorite color. Light refreshments will be offered following the service.
