By hosting and donating blood we build community while bringing life to the community. The need for blood is constant, and donating is a way to be a part of a lifesaving community. By rolling up a sleeve, donors can play a critical role in the treatment of accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. While some people donate blood and have to get back to work, people often stay to socialize. We host community Red Cross blood drives at least three times a year.
- In the Spring on Good Friday, remembering the story that Jesus gave his blood to save us. We usually show The Princess Bride in the waiting area.
- In the Summer near Independence Day weekend, remembering that Jesus frees us to do good. We usually show Disney’s American Legends in the waiting area.
- In the Fall in October, often before Halloween. remembering to thank God for the blessings of life that we can share. We usually show It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving in the waiting area.
About 8 weeks before the blood drive the appointment link opens at redcrossblood.org sponsor code: heartwood. You can also volunteer to check in donors and/or sit and talk with people in the refreshment area.
